Install VRS on RPi 3

Post by Richardsonsimon » Tue Dec 20, 2016 1:20 pm

Apologies if this has been asked before or discussed at length but is it possible to install VRS on a RPi3 or will it just break?

I've got as far as the "sudo apt-get install mono-complete" but then I'm not sure how to install the "Virtual Radar Server Mono Tarball" part as it downloads direct to my computer.

What do I do next, or do I just give up?

Thanks

If you haven't already downloaded the tarball onto the RPi3 then the first step is to download it.

Code: Select all

wget http://www.virtualradarserver.co.uk/Files/VirtualRadar.tar.gz
You will probably also need the config file that lets VRS work with mono version 4:

Code: Select all

wget http://www.virtualradarserver.co.uk/Files/VirtualRadar.exe.config.tar.gz
To decompress the files you do:

Code: Select all

tar -xvf VirtualRadar.tar.gz
tar -xvf VirtualRadar.exe.config.tar.gz
Then to start it do:

Code: Select all

mono VirtualRadar.exe
The user interface is probably going to be a bit rough on an RPi3... unless things have changed since I last looked the mono build for ARM devices crashes when it tries to draw text boxes. So you will probably need the web admin plugin:

Code: Select all

wget http://www.virtualradarserver.co.uk/Files/VirtualRadar.WebAdminPlugin.tar.gz
tar -xvf VirtualRadar.WebAdminPlugin.tar.gz
You need to create an admin user within VRS before you can use the web admin plugin - this will start VRS in headless mode (i.e. without a user interface) and create an admin user called Joe with a password of bloggs:

Code: Select all

mono VirtualRadar.exe -nogui -createAdmin:joe -password:bloggs
Then to open the web admin interface go to http://127.0.0.1:8080/WebAdmin/Index.html and enter the username joe, password bloggs.
