VRS on Linux Mint

I would be very grateful if someone could help me. I am having problems getting VRS to work under Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca.

I have installed Dump1090 and it is working properly off the dongle, and I am seeing aircraft logged. To do this I ran the command: ./dump1090 --interactive. I am assuming that is the correct command to enable data to be produced for VRS?

I also have VRS running properly under Mono as it loads OK. However, I cannot get VRS to recognise aircraft from Dump 1090. The status remains connecting and I am getting no aircraft tracked.

I have the receiver set for AVR or Beast. I have tried the following ports: 30002, 30003, 30005 and 31001 with no success. I have also tried deleting the receiver and re-entering the data. I have also tried the wizard a couple of times. I am clearly doing something wrong, and I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. I seem to be so close having both porogrammes running OK!!

Thanks for any help

Regards

Upkeep.

I too am having a problem with my Linux installation. I have dump1090 and VRS working well with my local RTL dongle. However, I'd like to share my data with a broad-based server.

When I used ADSB# and VRS on a Windows platform I believe ADSB# sent data directly to SDRsharp directly. I'm at a loss as to how to get dump1090 or VRS to send my data to a broad-based server.

Thoughts/comments appreciated.

I don't know what a broad-based server is :) What do you mean?

Sorry I was trying to be tactful and not show any bias.

I am trying to share data with SdrSharp.com or ADSBHub.net. When I was on a Win7 platform I connected to SDRSharp.com and interfaced with the dongle using ADSB#.

I believe that interfacing with ADSBHub using their "Client Concentrator" may not work. This runs under Windows and I'm running it through WINE. The software hears my receiver but I can't get it to send data to or receive data from their server.

With SDRSharp all the software is under Linux but I can't figure out how to share data. I don't know where to begin -- VRS or perhaps dump1090?

Thanks for getting back.

I'm afraid I'm probably not going to be of much help - I use a SBS-3 so I've never run SDR# or dump1090, and although I do send data to ADSBHub I just use their concentrator for it.

If the concentrator is managing to talk to the receiver then the sockets bit must be working under Wine. Are you running a firewall under Linux? Is it possible that that could be stopping the client from talking to their server?

I'm a Linux novice and I have thought a port block/firewall issue might be the root of this as well.

As to the Linux firewall .... that's a black box that I will dig into a little deeper.

Thanks for the quick reply. If I find out any more I'll report back.
