The database writer plugin just reproduces the behaviour of Kinetic's BaseStation application - it creates new aircraft and flight records in the database and records what the aircraft transmits. However the aircraft does not transmit either the ICAO type code or the ICAO operator code, which is what is needed to match the aircraft to a silhouette and an operator flag.

If you're running under Windows then Gatwick Aviation Society produce a number of utilities that can look up the details of new aircraft on their site and fill in the fields on the database. The one I use is SBSPopulate, which is free: http://www.gatwickaviationsociety.org.u ... tebeta.asp

That's a bit old though, their replacement for it is Active Display Lite: http://www.gatwickaviationsociety.org.uk/ADL_home.asp

Active Display Lite is a free cut-down version of their pay-for software, Active Display: http://www.gatwickaviationsociety.org.uk/AD_home.asp

I can't tell you the configuration instructions for Active Display, but for SBS-Populate you just install it, run it, click Settings | Database and point it at the BaseStation.sqb that the database writer plugin is updating. Then click the Auto Populate tab and click Start. I imagine the configuration for Active Display would be along the same lines.

To begin with you won't see much of an effect on the VRS display but as the information builds up over time you should start seeing operator flags and silhouettes coming through, as well as other information such as the aircraft's registration.
