Is it possible to run a VRS feed on a PI, and if so which set of instructions do I download and what is the minimum PI type I should get?

Yes, you should be able to. You'll want the beefiest Pi you can get. The instructions for installing under Linux are here:

http://www.virtualradarserver.co.uk/mono.aspx

When you get it running you'll notice that it'll crash when you open the options screen. This is because Mono on the Pi has a problem with text fields, in that it crashes when it tries to draw them. There's nothing that I can do about that. To get around this you can use the web admin plugin to configure the program via a web browser. As-at the time of writing the web admin plugin is in preview, so you'll need to download the preview version of the server and the plugin from here:

http://www.virtualradarserver.co.uk/Preview.aspx

Then create an admin VRS user from the command-line following the instructions here:

Sorry for the delay in replying - if the platform has a version of Mono ported to it, and that Mono supports hardware floating point, then VRS should work on it.

Am i missing something or is ist still "state of the art" that VRS via Mono crashes as soon as i open the options tab?

I just set up my Pi3 with raspbian, installed mono as described here on vrs and started up vrs. Worked until i wanted to go to the options.

EDIT: Updating Mono and/or using the latest Preview Version was the solution!

The crash in the options screen was the ARM build of Mono crashing when the application tried to draw a text box. It wasn't a problem that was unique to VRS, any .NET application that used WinForms text boxes would hit it.

If the latest mono isn't crashing any more then that's good to know. It was a pain :)
