Latest DataBase Writer not Updating DataBase

Postby paradiselost » Mon Nov 30, 2015 9:24 pm

The last couple of iterations of the Preview DataBaseWriter with saving online lookups checked have not been saving to the database.

The next day the same ICAO numbers have the old information before editing.

The save function appears to work updating the GUI and using the ICAO search appears to be the new edited information. But tomorrow that is all lost with the old information reappearing.

If one uses PBLink3 simultaneously with the builtin DataBase Editor, duplicate records for the same ICAO are noted in PBLink3.

Solution Re: Latest DataBase Writer not Updating DataBase

On the DataBase writer not updating the Database I think I know the answer.

The tick in the online lookup is the cause of the changing settings. The PBase site isn't as current as the edits we make in DataBase Editor and if every flight is looked up leads to inaccurate data reappearing.

Bulk changes using PBLink3 is preferred using the DataBase View as long as you don't configure it to write to your primary Basestation.sqb but to a copy. When you are finished with the bulk editing, manually use the copy to overwrite your primary Basestation.sqb. In order to have a fresh copy of your primary Basestation.sqb to bulk edit with PBLink3 refresh the copy in another location to bring it current before bulk editing. It is a good practice to close VRS before overwriting the primary Basestation.sqb.

I'm seeing a similar issue running the latest preview versions for Database Editor, Database Writer, and Server, though I have online lookup disabled. I have a helicopter that flies by daily, yesterday I revised its Operator from Corporate to the actual owner. This evening I brought it up and the Operator was again reported as Corporate. Checking the database via PBLink showed the same, even after editing/saving via Database Editor (reloaded the editor page to verify it saw the change…something isn't pushing to the database that VRS is reading).

I rolled back all 3 install packages to revs from mid-October and tested with a different ICAO Hex and successfully saw the database entry change when editing via Database Editor (verified via PBLink read of db).

If online lookup is disabled then VRS will not do online lookups. You can verify this by going to Help | Diagnostics | Aircraft Detail Online Lookup Log, which shows the last 30 minutes worth of lookups and their outcome. If something is overwriting your edits in BaseStation.sqb when online lookup is disabled then it is not the database writer, it's got nothing to overwrite it with.

Using the 12-5 versions for the server and database writer plugin the last 30 minute logs shows nothing currently but in the Queues log it reports 8 lookups since that log was created and online lookups were disabled.

I will keep an eye on it.

The queue count isn't necessarily the same as the number of lookups that were made, the queue is a separate thing. The things that put items into the queue don't care whether lookups are switched on or not, that's not their concern. I imagine the queue entries would have been aircraft that were missing from your database, probably on startup.

However, I'll need to debug it to make sure and at the moment the code is a bit up in the air :) I've made a note to check it once everything is compiling again. But as far as lookups go the aircraft detail online lookup log is gospel, that's getting its entries from the bit of code that's actually doing the lookups.
