Exception Recovery: Working Configuration.xml Win7

If you have made a bad choice in the /tools/options of VRS, VRS may not load but display a list of error messages.
If you are presented with a chance to reload defaults you may be dismayed that information is reset and you may not have that information at hand you used to get VRS working initially.

There is a better way to restore the working VRS before you made the mistake.

If you are using Windows 7 and perhaps others, find the Configuration.xml file on your computer and when you find it, highlight it and right click. Restore Previous Versions will be one of the options. Clicking on that will find previous versions of that file, a history so to speak.

Select a previous version before you started changing things and click Restore. Restart VRS. The error was caused by the last changes you did to the file.

Configuration.xml is written when ever in the VRS program /tools/options a selection is changed and OK is selected. This file is read when ever VRS is started so if you made a mistake, a FATAL Exception can occur and VRS will fail to load.

If you forget the specific error, the file VirtualRadarLog.txt in the same directory as Configuration.xml was found in records it.

If VRS was working before, the previous steps will restore a working version.

Thanks John,

Outstanding reply. I am sure others will find this very useful.
