Range JSON for merged feeds

The "to-do" list for Virtual Radar Server is as long as my arm, but if you want to pile more work onto it then this is for you.

Range JSON for merged feeds

Post by ProHill » Wed May 04, 2016 4:03 pm

Would it be possible to write out range json for merged feeds? The use case is for large VRS instances that are merging from multiple geographically dispersed receivers. It would show more of a coverage map than a single receiver's range plot. Thoughts?

I can't remember what Range.json is, it doesn't ring a bell. Are you talking about having a polar plot / receiver range for merged feeds? If so then as things stand it won't work, polar plots are calculated from a single point on the globe. With a merged feed the distances need to be measured from multiple points, otherwise it's going to show coverage where there is none.

One possibility that might work would be to have a menu entry in the site for merged feeds that toggles the display of polar plots for all of the receivers that contribute to the merged feed - so if you have 5 feeds being merged and you click the entry for the merged feed you see 5 different polar plots on the map (assuming that all of them have receiver locations set). That might not be too tricky.
