Yes, I know this is a dream - integrate a/c position data on VRS and a real time lightning overlay such as found on http://www.lightningmaps.org/
Now that would be the dogs bo***cks :D

That would be quite cool :) As it happens I had an email a couple of weeks ago from someone asking about the possibility of adding a weather layer to the map.

In the case of the site that you've linked to it looks like they want you to be sending lightning data before you can have access to the shared feed of strikes:

So that one might not be entirely suitable. However I am on the lookout for a weather layer for Google Maps that is reliable, has world-wide coverage and doesn't require a registration key or fixed IP address to use. So far I've not had much joy, but if I ever do come across one I'll add support for it.
