Efficiency/Reliability of Mono/Linux vs. Windows VRS

Post by dsfh2992 » Wed Mar 01, 2017 9:23 pm

Does anyone have any thoughts on:

1. Once properly configured, is VRS less prone to stopping unexpectedly on Mono or on Windows (or the same). I have the impression that Mono is "shakier" but not positive.

2. From a CPU usage perspective, which OS results in using the fewest CPU cycles to serve (a lot) of visitors?

Thanks,

I can't attest to VRS's stability under Mono as I'm not running it for long periods of time on Linux, but I develop and test VRS on Windows and .NET is developed and maintained by Microsoft for Windows. There are bits of the program that I have to disable at runtime because of missing functionality in Mono. The Windows version is the definitive version.

That said, I expect the Mono situation to improve over time now that Microsoft have bought Xamarin and are actively contributing source to Mono.
