No pictures (discussed before)

Post by matthys70 »

 Okay ... working fine for years under Windows, now I wanted to try under Ubuntu.

Some specs about what I'm running before I start:
Ubuntu 21.04 (x86-64)
Mono JIT compiler version 6.8.0.105 (Debian 6.8.0.105+dfsg-3 Mon Apr 27 19:25:46 UTC 2020)
Virtual Radar 2.4.4.36598

So I do not have any pictures like marker, Silhouette or Flag.
This seems to be a know issue related to mono version?

However what I do not understand is the link it generates.
If I inspect the marker I see:
http://<server>:8080/VirtualRadar/images/web-markers/top/Wdth-80/Hght-114/hiDpi/Rotate-100/Alt-30/CenX-40/WTC-Medium-2-Jet-Selected.png

However if I manual enter this, I will 'see' the correct marker image:
http://<server>:8080/VirtualRadar/images/markers/WTC-Medium-2-Jet-Selected.png

Notice the change from web-markers to marker?
Because I know there is a folder images/markers and NOT images/web-markers.
However on Windows there is also no images/web-markers but work fine with the original link.

I also read there seems to be a 2.4.5 preview version which may solve this problem?
But I have no clue where to find the mono preview ....

Again .. sorry if this item as asked before.

Thanks,
Matthijs

I'm in the same situation. I read on the FlightAware forum about a script that will allow you to easily install VRS on Linux. You can choose from v2.4.5 up to v3. Here's the link to the excellent project: https://github.com/mypiaware/virtual-ra ... stallation

I first installed v2.4.5 and pictures were showing, but aircraft markers were not. Then I installed v3 and the look was much better. Markers were showing but no pictures. Apparently it has to do with AVG and Malwarebytes. Look for Removed on this page. https://www.virtualradarserver.co.uk/Preview.aspx

Yes, I also found this Preview Installers and Tarballs page and downloaded the v3.0.0-preview-6 Linux / MacOS Mono Tarballs.

Works fine for me with this preview version, so solved the problem. Now hope a stable version will be out soon.

One more question;

Does anyone know how the thumbnails are controlled?

In the Preview 4 is stated:
Links to and thumbnails from airport-data.com have been removed after AVG and Malwarebytes have started blocking links to the site.

I know there is a variable called LinkSite but were do I find this?
It's not in the Web Admin and also not in the Configuration.xml
I know there are multiple options for this ...

I asked because the Thumbnails are not working .... and would like to fix it :-)

FYI I've found that VRS 2.4.4 doesn't work well with the latest mono, 6.12, on my Debian Buster-based distro. What I did to get around that is, instead of using the command given in Mono's installation instructions

Code: Select all

echo "deb https://download.mono-project.com/repo/debian stable-buster main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mono-official-stable.list
was instead use

Code: Select all

echo "deb https://download.mono-project.com/repo/debian stable-buster/snapshots/6.0.0.334 main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mono-official-stable.list
which causes the 6.0.0 version of mono, which was the latest current version when VRS 2.4.4 was released, to be available for installation. Mono 6.0.0 works nicely with VRS 2.4.4. (Of course you would need to use the appropriate Ubuntu snapshot location instead of Debian Buster.)
