VRS quitting after splash screen

Post by morkunas » Fri Aug 29, 2014 3:11 pm

I just loaded VRS and mono on my Linux Mint 16 laptop. VRS is able to start but a dialog box pops 'Unable to open the database file.' After clicking OK VRS exits. I have included the VRS log file and a screen shot of the dialog box.

Hi

It looks like it cannot download the standing data file from the main server. Does the machine have internet access?

When the program is first installed there is no standing data database - that gets downloaded in the background once the program is up and running. The program knows when the files aren't there and won't try to load them if they're missing.

When they are downloaded they *should* be given temporary names during the download and then, once the download is complete, the temporary files are swapped into place. It sounds like something might have gone wrong there.

If you go into .local/share/VirtualRadar you will probably see a file called StandingData.sqb and another called FlightNumberCoverage.csv. The temporary files used during download have the same names but with an extension of ".tmp".

If you do have a StandingData.sqb, how large it is? Ditto for FlightNumberCoverage.csv?

Once you've noted the size you can try moving or deleting them. That should let the program start up.

If the files are not there then something went wrong when the program tried to figure out if the files are present. How are you running VRS, is it just a straight "mono VirtualRadar.exe" from the command-line or are you sandboxing it? If you are running it in a sandbox then VRS will need unfettered access to its configuration folder. By default that's ~/.local/share/VirtualRadar but you can specify another configuration folder with the switch -workingFolder:<path to working folder> (no space around the colon).
