United Airlines Routes

Hi

From what I'm seeing, I am beginning to think that the Callsign is assigned to an actual plane rather than an actual Point "A" to Point "B" route. I tracked one on the Web and it's physical route over a couple day period went from this area to California, Texas, Florida and the Northeast over a two day period, all supposedly with the same flight number.

If that's not the case, their route info seems to be constantly changing. I see too many of their planes flying on the West Coast (SouthWest BC) with VRS defined routes that would never use this air space.

If this is really the case, should we be ignoring updating United Airlines routes because we will very rarely have them accurate. Can anyone confirm what UAL does?

Most of UAL's routes are currently coming out of ACARS records. The way the ACARS routes parser works means that new routes for an existing flight number won't make it into the database for quite some time, so you'll continue to see old routes for them.

However UAL is a part of the Star Alliance and I'm currently looking at parsing the Star Alliance PDF timetable to extract routes from that. If that comes to fruition then they should be automatically updated every night, with one or two exceptions (circular routes in particular will be hard to parse accurately).
