DF-19 Packets

Post by mmcgee » Thu Mar 30, 2017 7:13 pm

I accidentally captured some DF19 transmissions, and it got me curious. There seems to be very little info on what is in these packets other than to mention the Application Field (AF) format. So, here is what I was able to gleam from the several hundred packets I received from a pair of C-17's that flew over...

AF-0 appears to be a standard DF17 packet. I saw info for Airborne Position, Airborne Velocity, and Category/Id.

AF-1 is supposedly reserved for formation flying. This packet doesn't appear to be encrypted, contrary to what I have read. The ICAO address was in the expected position in the packet. In the extended data portion (ES) of the packet, I saw a 4 bit code (presumably a packet type). For packet type 0xA, I next saw the ICAO address for the *other* plane. I see a number of other bit fields, but without some type of reference I don't know what to make of them.

Anyone else seen these packets?
