help with ssl (secure)

Post by scoobydobedooo »

hey all hope everyne is good today :)

i need some help securing my VRS site,

i would like to put an ssl on my page to make it secure as i have had a few people on my case because they dont feel to go enterint details on an non secure website,

i have been told the way to do this is to take away the port number from the domain address but when i do this the radar site will not load.

ive seen a few sites out there that have done this with no port in the domain name but for the life of me i cant work out what im doing wrong,

could anymore point me in the right direction please :)

many thanx

The port number has nothing to do with SSL, the distinction is that SSL addresses have https:// at the start and non-SSL addresses start with http://. If you want to access VRS without specifying the port number then have VRS listen on the default HTTP port, which is port 80.

I intend to add SSL support to VRS but it's not there at the moment.

I think you are meaning by changing the port to 443 this will enable SSL?

Hmm ok
I might ask ADSB Exchange how they did it.
It otherwise gives a mixed content error and will not work.

If you are meaning "Google font links are now explictly HTTPS" this means that google fonts can be loaded by https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans not http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans.

You need to add a proxy server like nginx in front of VRS to make it https-capable.
