ISP Private IP Addressing Breaking Rebroadcasting

Many ISPs running low on IPV4 addresses have resorted to private IPs to the modem with one Public IP as a gateway to many modems (Customers). While conserving the IPV4 they have remaining it renders the modem unable to set ports for games and running local servers like VRS, Mongoose and DDNS services like NO-IP from working.

Using this scheme prevents the local servers from receiving internet requests for data since everything on the ISP side of the public IP is hidden as well as the internal routing information.

Short of requesting (and paying for) a static IP from an ISP from their remaining pool of public IPs I haven't found a workaround solution.

Sharing or rebroadcasting or consolidating will be impossible.

AFAIK this is now fixed in the new "Push" system that was introduced in version 2.1.0. I have many feeders on mobile and fixed networks with no "real" IP address. I believe that Dmitry over at VRS Russia has many feeds via this route as well.

Could you expound what "no "real" IP address means to you? Does it mean an address like xxx.ddns.net, a domain name like philippineradars.com or a pseudo IP address detected by DUC? The NAT used by ISPs disregards packets sent from the internet through the gateway address found by DUC for security purposes therefore if your VRS server is connected to the internet through a private IP your feeders packets will not arrive on port 33001 for example. It is my case as I noted my ISPs NAT drops everything except port 80 so the modem/router is rendered as an expensive username and password device for Radius validation which is go or no go to the DNS for routing. UPnP and port forwarding will not work if you are only served data on port 80.

It is verifiable facts I need to either verify or disprove my supposition. "AFAIK" is not a fact I can use.

I think what Jon was saying is that if you wanted to feed another site then you can use a push rebroadcast server to connect to them, you don't have to set up a rebroadcast server for them to connect to you any more. That will work through your ISP's NAT. If you wanted to take a feed from another site then they would not be able to push the feed to you because of your ISP's NAT - instead they would have to set up an old school rebroadcast server that you would have to connect to so that you can pull the feed from them. In both cases it would only work if the remote site was not also behind a NAT device. If you're both behind NAT devices then you're screwed, there would be no way for you to share feeds with each other without going through a third party.

There's no way that you can put your site up onto the Internet through your ISP's NAT. There's nothing anyone can do about that - the only way to get around it (or at least, to get around it without spending money on a static address or renting a server) is to dump your ISP and go with one that doesn't use NAT.

Thanks Andrew, your explanation was easy for me to understand. I have ordered a "REAL" static IP today.

Version 2.1 is great even with the emoticon at the top of the separation space. }); } in the desktop.html.
