FLARM data into VRS?

Post by Hoggorm » Sun Jun 07, 2015 9:08 pm

A college of mine flies gliders on his spare time and would like to set up a FLARM receiver.

As of now he uses a RTL-SDR USB dongle connected to his laptop and RTL1090 feeds data into VRS where he can see air traffic.

Since FLARM do not run on 1090 MHz, that data is obviously not heard when using RTL1090. Is there some similar software available that can replace RTL1090 and feed FLARM data to VRS so that he can see gliders on his computer?

Thank you for advice

I'm afraid I know hardly anything about FLARM, but from what I've read on Wikipedia it looks like FLARM are using an encrypted protocol from version 6 onwards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLARM#FLARM_Protocol), and from their web site it appears that existing users are being forced onto version 6 (https://flarm.com/). I think your friend might find it tricky to get a receiver going for it.

I'll move this topic from Installation Problems to General Discussion as it's not really an installation problem :)
