Latest Mono causing crash

Post by dimbel » Sat Mar 28, 2015 8:07 am

Hi,

I updated to the latest version of Mono

Code: Select all

Mono JIT compiler version 3.12.1 (tarball Fri Mar 6 19:14:08 UTC 2015)
Copyright (C) 2002-2014 Novell, Inc, Xamarin Inc and Contributors. www.mono-project.com
        TLS:           __thread
        SIGSEGV:       altstack
        Notifications: epoll
        Architecture:  x86
        Disabled:      none
        Misc:          softdebug
        LLVM:          supported, not enabled.
        GC:            sgen
After this, VRS gets killed with a stacktrace

Code: Select all

Stacktrace:

Native stacktrace:

	mono() [0x80fdd53]
	mono() [0x814cddc]
	mono() [0x806f45f]
	[0xb7733c64]
	mono() [0x81d2df3]
	mono() [0x81cf7c9]
	mono() [0x827248d]
	/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0(+0x6f16) [0xb76abf16]
	/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(clone+0x5e) [0xb75e29ae]

Debug info from gdb:

=================================================================
Got a SIGSEGV while executing native code. This usually indicates
a fatal error in the mono runtime or one of the native libraries
used by your application.

I tried to use the Beta-release with the -nogui option to get rid of Mono, but here I get to the issue that the DBWriter plugin is not starting.

Any suggestions what I can try?

The nogui option doesn't get rid of Mono, it just means that VRS doesn't use whatever Mono is using to render the GUI. You can't get rid of Mono, it's providing the environment that VRS runs under.

Which distribution of Linux are you using?

Thanks for the update. I assumed it didn't require Mono. Learned something today.

I'm running Lubuntu 14.04. I started VirtualRadar now with MONO_LOG_LEVEL="info" to see if can catch more infos. So far VRS is running fine.

I test the mono version against Ubuntu, the last time I ran it it was working fine. Not tried it just lately though :) Mono's stability depends a great deal on the libraries that it's calling to do the work, if you haven't already then you might want to make sure that everything else is up-to-date on the machine.

Actually, the problem started after I updated to the latest stable Mono release. I ran all updates and rebooted.
I'll leave VRS running with the increased log levels. Maybe I catch something should it crash again

Thanks for your responses!
