UAT Support

The "to-do" list for Virtual Radar Server is as long as my arm, but if you want to pile more work onto it then this is for you.

UAT Support

Post by KC1IUC » Fri May 10, 2019 3:38 am

UAT has become a bit more mainstream over here in the states. (968mhz). PiAware has recently added support to their Pi images and reporting for it, and are making 968mhz antennas for it. I live near a small training airport and get 20-30 flights a day. When I pipe VRS to my UAT basestation port, it sees messages from it, but cannot interpret the data. If VRS could have UAT support added to it I think that'd be awesome!

You can currently feed 978 MHz UAT messages into VRS using the linux software, Dump978.

How so?

I run Dump978 (specially Dump97-fa) on the new PiAware 3.7.1 from FlightAware. It's configured to export basestation compatible output from port 30978. It also supports JSON aircraft position data from port 30979. Trying JSON output port, and setting VRS to JSON, i get nothing. Setting it to use the basestation feed, it receives messages, but is unable to decode the aircraft. I tract anywhere from 10 to 30 flights a day with just UAT with about 1,000 to 3,000 positions daily. https://flightaware.com/adsb/stats/user ... ats-101633

Via the piaware config I configured my Dump1090 Pi to output MLAT via Beast on Port 31005, and basestation output port for regular ADS-b and Mode-S data from port 31005 and it works great.

Is there some extra config for dump978 to make it work I'm missing? Thanks!

(Stats were reset late yesterday when I rebooted system. But it has said 1,000's of messages received, and no aircraft)
